18 is just a number ?
As a mother, i can still not accept you are an adult. 18 for me is just a number, an impression of the last 18 yrs we spent together.
My motherhood journey started in US - talking to you while you were still in my womb, noticing your kicks, listening to your heartbeat during the doctor visits and waiting to come back to India. Some days were bad, sometimes okay. You didnt trouble me much during pregnancy, so it went quite ok. Without laptop, work sometimes took toll ending up in office late into night when all i urged was come back home to relax. The doctor consultations at St Johhs is still vivid in my mind, the long wait for scans were boring but everything went well by God's grace.
For delivery, daddoo and I got admitted to hospital about 3-4 days in advance. We spent time walking, watching TV and waiting for labor pain to start. But even past due date, when i didn't experience the pain, doctor suggested C section but daddoo insisted . I was ton waiting for normal delivery. I was too young to understand these things or the implications. We waited and finally past midnight on Jul 9th, pain started. It was horrible and lasted for several hours but the moment you were born, tears rolled down my cheeks. I kissed you and it wiped all the pain. The next many months were spent taking care of you. After the initial time in Kerala, we returned to GPR house. Our new Indica was home too , so the next few months we had a lovely time roaming around.
Then was the time to return back to work. I cried everyday for many days, leaving you with grandparents and cried even more when i had to leave you at the day care from 10 months. But Bright Vistas became home soon and you spent the next 2 years there until we moved you to Montessori at three.
Your development stages were on time. Your stories were so much fun and every incident was detailed out in pure Malayalam. You had a silver anklet and I would watch those tinkling on your little feet. Your favorite things were watching love birds, listening to the nursery rhymes, playing with the blocks and of course jumping on the sofa.
At 4, Notre Dame Academy became your first school and for your convenience we moved to Manjunatha Layout, Hosa Road. By then, Dora had become your fav companion. Before you turned 6, we moved to US and the next 5 years were to be spent in Sunnyvale. You learnt piano and swimming. You were an athlete, a gymnast and a voracious reader. It was always a pleasure seeing you engaged in something or other, watching you grow up. Of course, the tantrums and fights with Appu would make me angry many a time but i have only wished good for you. You hiked with us, ran with us and was a pleasant child. You enjoyed school a lot and the teachers treated you like a sweetheart.
Turning back, its a mixed bag of memories but you have always made us feel proud. Pray for your good health and safety. May you remain a blessed child and we the fortunate parents.
