Of colors and retail therapy..

After a 2 (or 3 ? )month break from blogging i am back..a ten day vacation to Jaipur and delhi during pooja holidays,"maid" void days and such had made me extremely busy. Still when i sit back and relax for a while during the busy days, i do think of my little blog space.

Jaipur is an enchanting place with large forts, bazaars and streets full of colorful handicrafts, rajai, camels and of course bangles. I became crazy when i saw the streetside choodiwala and became contented only after buying 10 dozens of  bangles, made of cut glass and mud. I wonder how many days they would with me intact still it was my big wish to buy some of those and i did ! I cannot recollect when my love for Gujju and Rajasthani handicrafts began but i know i love them lots.Love the bright colors and the awesome combinations. In the scorching heat, most of the desi Rajasthanis looked a tired lot ,carrying water and making rotis all the time but their ideas and skills are a class apart. The Pink city with all the heritage buildings reminded me of old history lessons. We were fortunate to find out good eatouts which served typical Rajasthani dishes, thanks to my hubby who had done bit of research and found these. The haveli we stayed was also right inside pink city, which gave us enough time to explore pink city and Jaipur as well. Abhilash was generous to lent his car during our 5 day stay at Jaipur which made our city travel confortable and within budgets ! In between we managed a day to visit pushkar which has about 500 small and big temples , do the jal pooja at Pushkarini and also visit Brahma temple, which they claim is the only brahma temple in the whole world.from Pushakar, we drove to Ajmer darga of Moinudeen Chisti as well.It is a very sacred ,spiritual place for all, esp muslim community.we travelled in cycle rickshawas too which was a new experience esp for kids. Not to mention the tremendous "shop till you drop" experience..this time hubby was a bit too generous and didnt bind me with his gruelling looks as happens usually when i shop madly. From chappals to rajai to bedsheets to salwar materials to bangles and show pieces, we bought enough stuff for us and even extended family back in Kerala.Though we got very little time to explore the comforts of the haveli we stayed, kids made few good friends and had a good time...During my night stroll,i could smell the fragrance of jasmine , the flower i love most.I couldnt figure out from where they came until i saw the "mullavalli" climber on top...The chirping of birds early in the morning in the courtyard tree, the spicy Rajasthani meals we had and the jasmine fragrance made the place even more memorable.I wish i could spent another week there itself. However , time and tide waits for no man..Before we even realised, our 5 day stay in Jaipur was over. We packed bags(needless to say there was more luggage than when we
checked in) and started off for Delhi early saturday morning. Reached Delhi in about 3.5 hrs , munched some burgers, parked car in a supermarket and hoped into Delhi Metro to meet Sree's friend in Ghaziabad, had a sumptous North Indian lunch there and hoped to another friend of his who also stayed quite nearby. By evening we returned to Gudgaon, where we dined and wined with Abhilash and Malu.Sunday morning again heavy breakfast and a quick fish curry lunch, Malu fed us really well,i must say. Return flight journey was another novel one for kids, who were literally thrilled to see the plane going past clouds...And as the wheels touched Devanahalli airport, we realised our vacation too had come to an end !

Thanks to Sree for agreeing to this trip, its been a remarkable one  in every sense - Friends visits, shopping, spirituality, food and everything !
