Women's Day 2023 Scribble

Happy Women's Day !! Lots of wishes floating around on Social Media and at work. Instead of sharing challenges and how they have been overcome, today want to share an introspection and few mistakes in life.

Body Shaming Experiences and complexes: There was no term "body shaming" three decades back, during my teenage but today i clearly know that is what i went through. I only remember hearing comments from some relatives about dark skin complexion and such. My sub conscious mind turned them into a complex but instead of becoming depressed, i focussed on studies so i could be teacher's pet. And it worked! My teacher's gave me oppurtunities to be part of school's cultural events, give assembly speeches and all this boosted my self esteem. When i got into one of the prestigious engineering colleges, it gave me more confidence to do something with life. I never wore dresses, skirts or jeans which teens love to. Even during my first few months on job, i managed with just 1 formal top due to size issues !

Maturity and Responsibility: While these could be tagged as good qualities, overly showing maturity and having the sense of responsibility from a young age made me a serious person all life, creating a rigid invisible boundary around myself. It reduced the flexibility and ability to accept change, many of which if adopted could have made me a better person.

Academic Orientation: I have missed fun due to overly being academics oriented. Being class topper and getting marks were the only goal of life during studies. I cant remember my parents pressuring me to be a topper or score high marks but it just got into my head . I now realise school days could have been more fun and memorable while scoring decent marks. How many would have written notes during engineering or has never bunked classes ? Well i fall into that lot !

Fear of failure - The Whatifs kept me at bay from taking risks, trying the unknown and fear of failure. While it has kept me safe in many ways, it has crippled me as well - Be it going for Masters leaving the children, or choosing career options or going on an underwater adventure, or even trying a new food !
