40@40

This is my first notice period as i have never out my papers yet, Infy being my first and perhaps the longest ever ! And tis time me and Sree both are on NOTICE! We are both embarking on new jobs almost around same time. While he is joining as Sr Director in Ness Digital Technologies , an Israeli Indian Company, I am joining Accenture as Manager. Super excited at this juncture of life but I wonder if God has different plan. (will need another blog) .

I have been job hunting actively since last year when LinkedIn project was giving me hard time and management support was lacking. The PM in my team (apparently a mallu and good friend) who was supposed to report to me was having ego issues and made my life worser. The good work done , my commitment and long hours were never appreciated. So after very long, got my resume updated and put it up on LinkedIn website. Job hunting is like shopping. You don't get what you "when" you want. But at a time when you really dont need it. Esp, the wedding saree shopping. I remember for Tuttu's  wedding, how chitta was keen on buying me a saree and i didn't like any after visiting some 4 big shops ! But without a wedding or major event, you never shop for such expensive sarees either even if you find some "mann ki pasand" types..

Coming back the job hunt,  resume was up there , tried floating referrals within whoever possible but nothing seemed to work out. Shalini somehow got me interviewed in her company but didn't hear back from them. Unni got me interview for his company but due to lack of Cloud experience was rejected. Renny referred to IBM, Akrithi to Cisco and on went the list but hardly i got any calls. May be an 18 year IT Project Manager resume who has worked only in oracle EFP area didn't seem exciting. I tried to read through some Agile material and take certification thinking that might be a reason why my resume was not getting picked. Thanks to the current role, a no brainer operations one, it did give me time to read ex tra stuff. Like all times, Sree only gave advice but didn't take any effort to sit with me as i navigated through these boring study material.

And one fine morning in July comes a call from Accenture HR asking if i am interested in Manager opening Apparently they had called Shalini and she redirected the call to me. Immediately had 2 rounds of interview and HR called to inform i am selected. The hard part of salary negotiation was next. What i needed was an environment to grow and work with leaders who can mentor me . I needed a break from Infosys. If not now, i would probably never have one, so i wasnt eyeing a huge salary anyways. With the current Infosys salary of 20L, i found it hard to even ask for 30L but Sree told me to ask 35L . Discussion went on and finally i left it with a statement give me what suits my level in your company so i don't feel bad after joining. Offer letter followed and a whopping 100% of 40L CTC including joining bonus. I was elated and on Cloud Nine. Wanted to hug someone, go for a drive and eat an ice cream but none of these happened.

On July 15th,Thursday which also was "uthram" star of my beloved lord pooranthrayeesha i accepted the offer and submitted resignation at Infosys. I will be joining Accenture soon after my 40th birthday on Sep 15. Hence this post is named "40@40"...
