Friday the 22nd..
Jan 22, 2021 was a particularly happy day. While the husband was coming to monitor the "Sreerekha" house renovation work, i slipped into the car for a quick visit to Ameda Nagaraja temple. It was the last temple visit in my list . Though very close to both our homes, i hadn't gone there in a long time, hence the wish.
It was very peaceful at Ameda. After a quick stop by at the goshala, we sat near the backwaters just behind the temple. The waters brings in so much peace and tranquility. This time's Kerala visit included several backwater and lake sighting but it never ceases to bring the same positivity and peace as it did the first time.
After Ameda visit, we both went to the renovation site and then he dropped me at amma's place. Plan was to visit ammuma , stay at chitta's place , attend the utsavam at Ernakulam temple and return the next day. The cab came around 3:30 pm and we were at her place at 4pm. Ammuma's memory was clearly deteriorating exponentially and she couldn't recognise well or recollect our earlier visits. We all had tea and then left for the temple. It had been ages since i went there (atleast it felt so) . The aura around Lord Shiva could be felt. Three majestic elephants and chendamelam was going on. We didn't go into the crowd and maintained social distancing. Another thing which made me happy was the manjal para which we usually never do (the most expensive one, supposedly for dambatya sukham). The Durbar Hall ground which always hosted exhibitions and dance programmes was empty. We visited Central Mall quickly, grabbed a couple of leggings for Meera and tops for Kashi's birthday for which amma was invited.
Back home, it was dinner time. Post that, I spent sometime with ammuma , massaging her. She was like a kid and i felt the closest connection with her after a very long time. Initially, she wasn't able to sleep but later slept. We slept in the room beside (Tutu's room)
The next morning we had a nice start with some warm coffee. My plan was to take amma and Hari out for lunch and then head home. Tuttu , Vandana and Meera were expected around 10:30 am and we thought we would head for home after spending sometime with them to avoid too much crowding. The shock came in the form of phone call from ammuma's caretaker who had left 2 days back as her papers for Dubai was ready. As part of the paperwork , when she did COVID test, it turned out positive. This instilled fear in all of us. I had a strong feeling she would have contracted from chitta and if so, then we are all under RADAR now.
With this fear in mind, amma and I went to Bhima Jewellers ,something which is next to impossible with the husband. After following their sanitisation procedures , we went in. Bought 2 poornathrayeesha lockets, one for me and another for amma. I also exchanged some old gold for a 7 stone nagabhadam earring, which had been bothering me for sometime since i had the choker and matching bangle but no earring. Gold gives extra brownie points and we got back to chitta's house. Tuttu had taken her for COVID test because the maid had called with positive result and chitta was having cold since 2-3 days. Chitta is infamous for her daily outings even during these COVID days , be it for grocery, temple, bank and what not. She wears a mask but doesn't follow the sanitisation practice after getting home. It was close to lunch time but since amma didn't want to lunch out, we went straight home heated up the food in fridge and slept. Within few minutes, the Husband called saying there is JCB work going on at Sreerekha and he hasn't had lunch yet. I went there with some bananas and water .Spent an hour with him and then i went home.
PS : Next day was the family boating planned at Green Islands but we were asked not to join due to COVID fear.
