The grand summer wedding !

To me, my mom's place and relatives were more near. One reason definitely was the distance and hence the chances of getting to see and spending more time with them. Me and my brother used to spend summer vacations with grandparents and cousins. I cherish those days of watching movies (both in theatre and VCR),occasional temple visits, vishu kaineettams, tasty food (pappads, chips as well)from my grandma, tales from my grandad about his military days etc. After a long 10 months of school, this was defnitely a good break. For reasons, good and bad, dad's native and his relatives were always very far. Last week, for a marriage, we decided to go there and spend couple of days in the malabar, walk on the banks of Bharathapuzha and relish some good moments in the serene land. I had opted a week long vacation from work, so it gave me enough time to plan the trip. Along with parents and kids, we reached the wedding house in the afternoon. The house was so well decorated with a huge white...

My 2 cents....

Life is a struggle and i feel there is no end to it. As long as you have wishes and desires , you dont feel contented. When we were married, we were happy though we didnt have any savings. Honeymoon in Munnar was the best trip ever ! Back in blr, my only work was booking train tickets to and fro between Chennai and Bangalore. Life was very colorful and lovefilled.Soon i started dreaming about owning a flat in blr and realised we couldnt afford them with our monthly salaries. We were spending decent ampount on phone and travel, many times calls spanning the whole night when we realise one of us has fallen asleep while talking. We didnt have enough bank balance which could be used for downpayment and we didnt want to ask parents for help. So my search for apartments ended almost the same time it started. Life was otherwise good as with most newly weds - diamond ring for the first New Year, hotel visits, new dresses, movies and so on. When the first onsite chance came for Sree, we were exci...

The tiny red seeds...

Its been a 4 weeks of early morning yoga classes for Sree and we had to celebrate it. He is one lazy brat and morning starts after 7 for him on weekdays and after 8 on weekends. But he has got adjusted to getting up in the morning and doing an hr of hathayoga under a trainer who comes to the neighbourhood since 1 month.Sad part is that he has apparently succeeded in making me also attend the same, some relaxation that they are in the evenings and i can still catch some early morning hours of sleep ! On second thoughts, i realised it is necassary for the sedantary workstyle of my job and the luxury of having a fulltime help at home. So coming back to celebrations, i wanted to see this movie "manjadikkuru" the lucky red seeds. Directed by Anjali Menon, i had been wanting to see it for a while now, so we set off. Bunked office at 3:30 pm (rarest thing to happen to us),headed home, picked kids and in 30 mnts we were gazing at the tiny seeds on screen. Good movie featuring paddy fi...

Books and more books

I used to think i was in front of computer day long since that was my profession. But now i know why others too use laptop. This is modern age - world of computers and internet. One day, Sreya comes back home after playing with her friend Tanya and says, amma i want barbie games. I thought they could be bought from toy stores or baby shops, so i started asking her the specs- How it looks like ,What kind of things its comprised of etc. While i was trying to figure out about the toy, she said it was very nice dressing up Barbie and we played with it for long and then when it stopped, Tanya's mother put it for us again. So i asked why tanya's mother had to come and she said in the laptop we couldnt do much. Then i realised , she was talking about some games from the net or CD may be. Till that day, i never knew Barbie dressing could be played in the laptop. what a nice way ! Last year when my cousin was about to get married and i wanted to buy a new saree, i had searched a lot in ...

Quack quack, when the earth shakes...

We were munching on those chicken legs when my phone rang. It was Merly. She was out of CPP building and called to enquire if we had experienced an earth quake. My belief is that india ,esp bangalore, never had/would have one ! So i smiled away saying i am out of office and having fun with teammates at Barbeque Nation. Parties have been a culture at corporates and off late though we were devoid of company sponsored quaterly project parties, onsite guys were kind enough to sponsor one. It was first time for me in this place, so i was still wondering at the Barbeque arrangement on each table, the corporate crowd and so on. Prawns, chicken and fish lay on the barbeque for us.Another few minutes and my cell rang again. It was another friend from office, to enquire if we experienced an earthquake. I guessed something was serious this time. Called hubby to realise that he too heard the news but hadnt experienced any shakes. After a while, we indulged back into the barbeques. When Stomach was ...

Owning a Timepiece...

I cannot recollect when the idea of owning an epxensive timepiece crept into my mind. From school, i was fortunate to have a wrist watch, which i felt was a necessity for any diciplined person(i considered myself so). The first watch if i remmeber right was won in Maggy Quiz contest. It amazed me as a child (I wasnt even a teenager then) as it had so many different color straps to match dress and accessories (though i hardly had to change them). As a teenager, i had a leather strapped watch and later on when i got a job, several gold chained watches. Sonata, timex and some other "unbranded" watches. i never beleved in owning branded watches or went for very costly ones as i thought watches have to be changd atleast once every two years. Never owned a Titan for this reason. I recollect while in pune how i fancied a gold watch my roommate had (which her parents had given during her wedding. I wondered how anyone could wear a full gold watch(not sure abt its weight) , about how to...

Multi faceted personalities

I have met or heard about many such people. At diff points of time, get to hear about such people and i keep wondering how they manage to do so many things. On paper,on TV,They also have the same 24 hrs everyday that i have, most of them have a family and kids too. Recently our co-chairman Nandan Nilekani was invited by the Honorable Prime Minister to head a new Unique ID mission. So he is quitting Infosys. He has written (a) book too.He makes appearance on so many TV channels speaking giving his thoughts and views on a plethira of topics. How does he manage his schedule which would also include frequent travel across the globe, taking strategic decisiosn etc. What does it take to become such great personalities ? Recently one of my relatives launched a gaming site for preschool kids along with few other folks. He has a blog which i visit and where he makes his presence felt pretty well with photography and articles. He is an entrepreneur and being a start up, he has lots of responsibili...
